Star Student

To help build community in our classroom, students will take turns being our "Star Student of the Week." Exciting events occur during the week to help honor him or her. It is also a way for students in the class to learn more about each other and each other's families. Parents are invited to take part in the "Star Student of the Week" activities. The schedule will be posted at the bottom of this page.

Monday: Sharing

The Star Student will share his/her "Star Student Newspaper".  The Star Student is invited to bring in photographs that will help the class get to know them better. Students are also welcome to bring in a special item to share with the class for show and tell.

Tuesday: Favorite Book
The Star Student reads one of his or her favorite picture books or a chapter from a favorite novel to the class (Mrs. Brett or a friend may read instead if the Star Student prefers). Students are encouraged to practice reading the story aloud at home first.

Wednesday: Parent Letter
Parents may write a letter to the class about their child. Please send the letter in a sealed envelope to school with your child, and Mrs. Brett will read the letter to the class. The content of the letter is up to parents, but here are few ideas:

  1. Describe special or funny stories about your child for the class to hear.

  2. Write a silly or serious poem about your child. Tell us some interesting things we may not know about your child.

  3. Send pictures with a letter describing the pictures

  4. Write a short story with your child as the main character.

Parents may opt to email Mrs. Brett a video or slideshow of their child to watch in place of a letter. hbrett@valverde.edu

Thursday: Mystery Object

The Star Student brings in a mystery item for the “Mystery Box” that will help the class get to know them better. The class asks the Star Student ten critical thinking questions in the efforts to determine what the mystery object is in the “Mystery Box.”

**Parents have the option of switching any of the days listed above to better accommodate their own schedules.
